Q1. What is Railway Training Institute (RTI) all about?

  • RTI is a Public Tertiary Institution under Kenya Railways in the Ministry of Roads and Transport. The institute is registered as a TVET College by the Ministry of Education.

Q2. Where are you located?

RTI has two Campuses, in Nairobi and in Kisumu: -
  • The Main Campus is located in Nairobi, South B along Mwangeka Road off Aoko Road, about 6Km from the Central Business District.
Use matatus No. 11, board at the Nairobi Bus Station.

  • The Kisumu Campus, also known as the Marine School, is located about 1.5Km from the Kisumu Central Business District at Kisumu Marine Yard, near the Old Railway Station adjacent to the Kisumu Port.

Q4. What is the Minimum Entry Qualification for a Certificate / Diploma / Higher Diploma Course?

  • Craft Certificate KCSE D Plain or a D Plus (D or D+) or Pass in Relevant Artisan Course
  • Diploma Certificate KCSE C Minus or C Plain or C Plus or Pass in Relevant Craft Certificate Course
  • Higher Diploma Pass in Relevant Diploma Course\
Please Note that cluster subjects do not apply in course application

Q5. How many intakes do you have in a year?

  • We have three intakes in a year i.e. January intake, May intake and September intake
  • We also admit students on a need basis depending on the course and the examination body requirements.

Q7. I have been placed by KUCCPS, how do I get my Admission Letter?

  • Students placed by KUCCPS need not apply. The Institute shall upload their details as soon as they are received.
  • To download the admission letter, visit the RTI website www.rti.ac.ke click on the link Placed by KUCCPS, click here to download your letter”. Use the KCSE Index Number/KCSE Year as your log-in password, update the form provided and download the Admission letter.

Q8. How do I apply for a course in your institution and get an Admission Letter?

To apply: -
  • Visit the Institute website www.rti.ac.ke, on the home page, click the Apply Now Button” that takes one to the “Online Application Form” and fill in the form, Attach the documents requested i.e. copy of the ID card, Birth Certificate and Result slip/ Certificate and SUBMIT after paying the 1000/ application fee.
  • To get the admission letter, log-in to the portal on the website, go to downloads then click on the admission letter.
  • You can also Email, admission@rti.ac.ke or visit the Institute at Nairobi South B or Kisumu Campus for assistance.

Q9. How can I get the fee structure?

  • Once you apply for course, you will be required to download an admission letter, which has the fee structure

Q10. How do I pay my fees?
  • Fee can be paid either via the Institutes bank account in form of Bank deposit to Kenya Commercial Bank A/C 1102590363 Industrial Area Branch

  • You can also use a KCB mtaani agent, to deposit your fees into the Institute’s bank account Kenya Commercial Bank A/C 1102590363

Q11. Do you offer students’ meals and accommodation?

  • Yes, we do have hostels for both male and female students at a fee of Kshs 19,500 per term.
  • Breakfast, Lunch and Supper are provided to the boarders.
  • Day scholars can also opt to pay for lunch, at Kshs 5,000 per term.

Q12. Do you have part-time/Evening classes?

We offer: -
  • Certificate & Diploma in Road Transport Management
  • Higher Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
  • Part time option for all the other programs, is available, subject to attaining the requisite quorum

Q15. Can I transfer to your institution from another Institution?

  • Yes. Provided you qualify for the course you are interested in joining at RTI.

Q16. Can I Progress to the university after my course at RTI?

  • Yes, we offer courses examined by reputable local and external examination bodies. Our graduates proceed to pursue various programs at both local and international Universities.

Q17. How do I get my admission number?

  • Upon completion of admission, you will be issued with your admission number.

Q18. How is Student Life at RTI?

  • RTI is located at a serene environment. The Institute has ample space for students to engage in both indoor and outdoor sports activities. There are also clubs and societies that engage students.

Q19. What are the job prospects available to RTI?

  • RTI is an established brand with strong reputation in Engineering and Business Management. Our graduates are marketable in the industry.
