RTI is a registered TVET institution offering technical, vocational and entrepreneurship programmes. It was set up in order to provide the human resource for the railway transport sector.

The Institute has been identified as the Centre of Excellence for capacity building in the Railway Sector for Kenya and the region.

RTI is a recognized technical and vocational institute that offers Higher Diploma, Diploma and Certificate courses in the Nairobi (Main) and Kisumu Campuses. It prides itself as a human capacity development for the Kenya Railways.
